It's Friday and I'm Celebrating The Small Things!
Celebrate
The Small Things is a weekly celebration where some bloggers have
decided to post about something worth celebrating...no matter how big
or small it is.
This week has been a rough one... I had a steroid shot on Tuesday and my head has been really sore ever since. I get this procedure done every three months to help with my occipital neuralgia. Because it's gotten so frequent, my doctor mentioned to me that I may consider seeing a surgeon for a consult to cut off (burn off?) my occipital nerve. I told him that I'm soooo not ready for another surgery yet! He encouraged me to at least do some research on it so I know my options.

On a brighter note...
A super cute thing happened this week...my two year old nephew "talked" with me on the phone...really I just said hello to him and told him that I loved him. My brother said that he waved to me and blew me kisses! I definitely have to Skype them next time so I see the cuteness that is my nephew :)
The biggest celebration this week is my upcoming weekend...my husband and I are celebrating our anniversary a little early this month and going away to a wonderful bed and breakfast that we've been to before. Not only will I get some alone time with my love, but I scheduled a massage for Saturday morning that should help my poor little broken body feel better. I can't even explain in words how much I'm looking forward to a relaxing weekend and some much needed pampering and relaxation!
I look forward to catching up with everyone next week. Happy Weekend!
Edit: After writing my post, I realized that Nov 7 is my 1 year blogging anniversary! That snuck up on me...I'm glad I realized it just in the knick of time! So, Happy Bloggerversary to me!

OMG that surgery sounds scary. But I bet talking with the 2 year old makes it all better! Have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteI think my nephew can make everything better :)
DeleteHappy Blog anniversary. Enjoy a nice weekend with hubby. I'm also traveling to visit my son.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a great visit with your son!
DeleteThat surgery sounds a bit drastic. I'd definitely do a lot of research before you sign the consent form. Congratulations on both your anniversaries. Have a great weekend away.
ReplyDeleteI will definitely be doing A LOT of research before I agree to another surgery. Thanks for stopping by Julia!
DeleteHi Katie!
ReplyDeleteResearch is a good thing. I've had excellent results looking for answers to many health issues. I hope you find one very soon. Skyp is definitely the way to go - you are missing out! Happy Anniversary to you and the spouse. I love blogging - Happy Bloggerversary - I think you've invented a new word!
Haha...I think I invent new words daily. I just can't speak goodly :P
DeleteHappy Anniversary and Blogiversary! I hope your weekend is wonderful and helps with your pain.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteHappy blog-o-versary!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a restful weekend and the shot does the trick.
The shot has helped...but I think I have to wait until this weekend for the restful part! Long story short...the bed was too soft for my problematic back :(
DeleteHave a wonderful time at the B&B and keep all thoughts of surgeries out of your mind. I hope you feel better.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lexa!
DeleteOh Katie, my love: I hate to hear when you suffer pain. Please make sure you do tons of research regarding the surgery you're contemplating.
ReplyDeleteI know you're spirits were definitely lifted by 'talking' to your nephew! :) I'm hoping your anniversary weekend was peaceful, happy and loving. You guys deserve it! Happy Blogiversary to you!! Hugs.
Thanks for the sweet words Eva! Hugs right back at ya! {HUGS}
DeleteI wanted to reply to this well before now, but I got sick. I'm sorry. I wanted to let you know that TheHubs has had many a procedure like this. First they froze it, then they burned it with radio waves, all under the fluoroscope every 9 months for 5 years. (both sides). This procedure is an outpatient "surgery". I doubt they are talking about removal of the entire nerve...but was it called radio ablation?
ReplyDeleteHe said this is THE MOST painful procedure he's ever had. Now, mind you, he is highly tolerant to any of the "canes" and they usually wear off withing 5-10 minutes. The trigger point injections do not work at all for him but for MAYBE 20 minutes. So this procedure may not be as painful for you. So keep that in mind.
The after effects, well, the first few days are a bit tender and then eventually ease up. Yes, it relieved SOME of TheHubs' pain from occipital neuralgia but the problem is, your nerves grow back. Eventually, the nerves will become so "spaghettified", intermingling with the scar tissue, that it won't work anymore. That's where TheHubs sits now. We don't know where to go from here yet and he hasn't been back to the VA Pain Center since his last one didn't take. They haven't scheduled him anything and so we are at a loss.
If you want first hand understanding of the procedure and the after affects, I'm sure TheHubs wouldn't mind talking to you about it. Just let me know, email me and I can get you our phone number. We've been through sooooo much over the last 15 years.
Good luck! <3
