The medical condition that I have
causes me to suffer from arthritis. Anyone who also suffers from
arthritis knows that some days are worse than others and things like
your activity level or the change in weather can affect how achy you
feel.
Solution? Take a nice long hot bath.
Fill it to
the brim, get the water as hot as you can stand it, toss some Epsom
salts in there, and soak until you can't take the heat any longer.
My favorite time to soak is at night, right before bed. It not only
helps with my arthritis, but it also helps to relax me for bedtime. I turn off all the lights, light some candles, put on my favorite
Pandora channel, and just soak.
This winter has been especially hard on
me because of all the snow we've had. So one day I woke up...and it
was one of those days that I just didn't want to get out of bed
because I was so achy. So I stayed in bed all morning, then took a
nice hot bath around noon...got back into my pajamas and that was my
day. I don't normally do that, but it was really needed and totally
worth it.
Do you enjoy taking hot baths either
for relaxation or as a form of therapy for your aching body?

I am a hot bath addict! When I first got pregnant everyone was telling me that I could not take hot baths or showers and this freaked me out. It was my first and most urgent question for my doctor. He said it would be ok, of course. And this week, in my birthing class, it was actually recommended for when the contractions start, but are not frequent enough to get me admitted at the hospital. The instructor asked, "You've allowed yourself to take baths, right?" and both Rob and I started laughing!
ReplyDeleteFor three years, we had no bath tub in this house. That is enough bath deprivation for me for the rest of my life!! In fact, I have had a bath mentally scheduled for today since I woke up. I can't wait!!
3 years without a tub? *gasp*
DeleteI love a good soak! With bubbles! ~MPL
ReplyDeleteI got this really great bubble bath that has Eucalyptus in it...it's fantastic...and I got it from Walmart of all places :)
DeleteI love hot baths... I dread the day I ever have to move into a care facility, we have these things called TMVs which restricts how hot the water comes out to 43oC, I'd have to get the care staff to boil kettles to raise the temperature!

A lukewarm bath is just so disappointing, isn't it? Like all the hope that was there waiting just died with the temperature LOL
DeleteI love baths, too! Luckily, so does my husband.
ReplyDeleteThe first time I visited his house I was rather astounded by the amount and variety of bath salts and soaps he had. Turns out, he's allergic to Ivory soap, but that's all he had growing up. As an adult, he was so thrilled to find out that bathing didn't have to be painful that he turned into a bath aficionado.
Our tub's big enough for the 2 of us, so we often hop in together after work and discuss our day. He even proposed to me in the bathtub - lol! (Speaking of, today is our 3rd anniversary!)

Happy Anniversary Tui! Our tub is a big soaking tub, so my husband and I will soak together sometimes too. So relaxing. And a nice way to catch up on the day together.
DeleteYou have to try the epsom salts I just got from Target! They were ten bucks and smelled like they were 100!

Trust me! You're welcome.
These sound like exactly what I needed this winter. My skin has been crazy and dry and itchy this season. Thanks for the recommendation!
DeleteI am the odd girl out. I don't get the bath thing. I do think Epsom salts are wonderful and glad to see other people under 60 who are on board with me!

We all can't love the same things...that would make for a boring world! My brother is the one who first told me about the Epsom salts thing. There are times when I would just soak my feet and not do the entire bath routine. Those salts really help. Thanks for the visit and the comment :)
DeleteHot baths are the best. Relaxing, therapeutic and just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI agree!
